Strong focusing and low dispersion make the nonlinear dynamics of next-generation storage rings a fresh challenge.
There is much activity in the low emittance rings community to develop techniques for understanding and properly
designing these new machines. Such techniques include global optimizers and Lie algebra. In this palaver, the SLS2
lattice and its nonlinear properties will be presented. We will discuss approaches to handling these
nonlinearities. This talk will recap some experiences from the recent 2014 Low Emittance Rings Workshop.
