Dear Colleagues Nate Pogue (PSI-Fellow) will talk about "New PSI Ring Flat Top Models – Comments, Questions, and Ideas"

Date: 28.4.2015
Time: 14.00
Place: WBGB 021

Abstract: The flat top cavity is of critical importance to the operation of the Ring Cyclotron. Its smooth operation is vital to accelerating record achieving currents (2.2 mA) to high energy (590 MeV). Without this device, the ring can produce approximately half the beam current achievable today. The purpose behind these new RF models and designs is that the cavity is one of the oldest components in the cyclotron and has not, until this winter, been moved in 35 years. If something were to go wrong with the cavity, an accurate field and mechanical model is necessary to reproduce the cavity immediately. In this presentation it will be shown that the existing RF model needed updating and the CAD model built from the cavity drawings were accurate but needed slight adjustment. The new model was used to model the modes of the cavity and how its RF can interact with the vacuum space of the cyclotron. Models will be shown illustrating the sensitivity of the cavity to perturbations and methods to minimize these effects. Additionally, two conceptual cavities will be presented to give thought as to future upgrades of the cavity.

Thanks for stopping by, and of course please distribute to interested collegues
