Final Presentation of Semester Thesis on Particle Accelerator Simulations on Intel MIC
September, 1st, after Nate Pogue's talk, approximately 14:45, WBGB 21
Benjamin Ulmer, MSc student at ETH Zurich
Abstract:
Dynamic Kernel Scheduler (DKS) is an ongoing research project at PSI which provides a software layer between host application and different hardware accelerators such as GPUs or Intel Many Integrated Core architectures (MIC). DKS is used in the Object-oriented Parallel Accelerator Library (OPAL) to speed up computation. The talk will show the results of my Semester Thesis on Particle Accelerator Simulations on Intel MIC. A short introduction into Intel MIC will be given and the performance of a parallel FFT on Intel MIC compared to host only execution and execution on a general purpose GPU will be discussed. Implementation and performance of the FFT based Poisson solver in OPAL using Intel MIC will be presented.
Hope to see you there

Flat Top Cavity - Tolerances, Missing Power, and Solutions.
N. Pogue Sept 1st, 14:00 WBGB 021
A new multi-physics model of the Flat Top cavity will be shown as well as the tolerances needed in the cavity to minimally reduce the leaked power. The model will be compared to measured data and it will be shown that there is good agreement between the
two. Concepts for methods of reducing the leaked power will be presented as well as the implications for reducing the plasma. Finally a new conceptual design for a new cavity will be briefly presented.
