Title: Photoinjector simulations using OPAL-t for the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator

Abstract:
The Argonne Wakefield Accelerator (AWA) facility houses two photoinjectors with various parameters (i.e charge, energy) and several experimental areas. In the past, codes such as PARMELA, ASTRA, and GPT have been used to simulate beam dynamics at AWA.  In order to take advantage of HPC resources offered by Argonne National Laboratory, effort was made to investigate OPAL-t. A benchmark between ASTRA, GPT, and OPAL-t was performed using the AWA photocathode gun as the model. After achieving satisfactory results, it was decided to use OPAL-t to design an addition to the high charge beam line. Work has also begun to optimize the linac, before the new beam line, using a pre-packaged algorithm in python. Moving forward, we would like to take advantage of optPilot as we finalize the design. This presentation will cover benchmark results, introduction of the new beam line of interest, and initial optimization results for the linac at high charge.
