Folks Achim compiled the following information
concerning the H5Part svn status and future plans:

1.4: stable branch for the current stable version (bug fixes, feature 
freezed).

1.5: development branch for version 1.6 (1.4 plus performance optimization 
and new data types (int32, float32, ...).

trunk: development branch for H5Part/Block plus H5Fed

planed 1.6: stable branch for H5Part/Block with performance optimization and 
new data types

planed 1.7: development branch for version 1.8 (1.6 plus FastBit)

planed 1.8: stable branch for H5Part/Block with FastBit 

planed 2.0: stable branch for H5Part/Block/Fed and all features of 1.8
