Dear Linux Admins
Timeframe
---------
Thu 05.05.2022 10:00 - 11:00
Effects
-------
UEFI network boot might be interrupted several times, but not more than two minutes each.
Rationale
---------
The network boot with legacy BIOS using pxelinux.0 allows to override the default menu/configuration with device-specific files, e.g. for testing or special devices.
I tried to do the same with the UEFI network boot using shimx64.efi -> grubx64.efi, but it did not work. It looks like the according feature [1] is not enabled in our grubx64.efi binary.
Procedure
---------
I will replace the current grubx64.efi with different binaries for a boot test of my EFI vm. After each test the current binary will be played back until the next test is ready.
At the end the current grubx64.efi will be in charge again. The results, next steps and tests with real hardware will be discussed in the next Weekly Linux Sync Tue 10.05.2022
Cheers
Konrad
