Dear Linux Users and Admins
Our current Puppet server is a bit outdated (software version wise), so we prepared a new Puppet server running RHEL9 and OpenVox 8.
I have not met yet any compatibility issues with the new server, still your special configuration may not have been tested yet. So I ask you to test the new Puppet server in a free moment:
puppet agent -t --server lx-puppet-01.psi.ch
or in the DMZ
puppet agent -t --server vs-puppet-dmz.psi.ch
Note that the next normal puppet run (automatic or with "puppet agent -t" will always fall back to the generic puppet.psi.ch which currently points to the old server. We will change it to the new one once we have sufficient feedback and feel ready to migrate. That will then happen without the need for action on your side. There is no need to delete host keys, etc. for the migration.
What makes most headache with Puppet are configurations using the deprecated and unmaintained "network" class, respectively the nodes with `network::interfaces_hash` or `network::gateway` Hiera settings. These are found in following environments:
cits2
cocos
daas
esi
gmerlin6
hipa
meg
merlin
merlin6
merlin7
photonics
sls
swissfel
tier3
tmerlin6
twlha
If you are responsible for one of these environments, please check your nodes there and plan a migration to modern Hiera managed network configuration: https://linux.psi.ch/documentation/admin-guide/configuration/basic/networking.html
If you have questions, issues or any kind of feedback feel free to contact linux-eng AT psi.ch.
Kind regards
Konrad
