Dear Merlin6 users,

Following our previous announcement regarding the AFS shutdown, we would like to inform you about the upcoming migration steps on Merlin6.

merlin-l-002 has already been migrated to NFS and is available for testing. We strongly encourage you to test Pmodules, and report any issues by tomorrow, Friday, October 16. Although the installation has been fully synchronized (with some exceptions, please read below), some residual AFS dependencies may remain.

We plan to migrate the primary login node, merlin-l-001, on Monday morning. Tomorrow Friday, 16 October, from 17:00, new logins to merlin-l-001 will be disabled. On Monday, October 19, morning, remaining sessions on merlin-l-001 will be terminated, and the node will be migrated and rebooted.

Starting Tuesday, 20 October, compute nodes will be progressively drained, migrated to NFS, and returned to production to minimize disruption. If your group would like to test the new setup in advance, please let us know so we can arrange for a node in your partition to be migrated ahead of the rollout. Similarly, if your group would prefer to postpone the migration, please inform us in advance so we can adjust the schedule accordingly. Please note that all nodes must be migrated before the end of October.

Finally, we would like to update that nuclear software has not been migrated, as we expect these installations to be maintained by the responsible groups in private directories on Merlin6. If you still require this software on Merlin6 coming from central Pmodules, please contact us and we will provide a solution.
