Dear Guoliang
Regarding the first
approach, you can indeed import the fields in OPAL using BANDRF cyclotron type. The fields will be heavy, and they must be definitive fields, so it is not very useful in the design phase. There is a regression test with this cycoltron type if you want
an example.

Dear Guoliang,
I don’t have any experience with the second approach. But it should be ok.
For the first approach, OPAL offers the possibility to divide the RF map into different parts of different resolutions. For instance the parts in the central region with fine grids, while the parts in other region with large grids.
Best, Hui

Betreff: [Opal] Sprial sector cyclotron - sprial
hello, everone.
We are designing a spiral sector cyclotron. And I am using OPAL to simulate the beam in the cyclotron.
When I calculate the acceleration orbits, there is no problem in magnet fields. But for the RF cavities, our RF cavities are also spiral cavities. In opal-cycl, only single gap RF cavity can be used. So , how to achieve the spiral RF cavities? I think there may be two ways to simulate the spiral RF cavities.
1.we can import the 3D electrical fields in the opal-cycl. And I have done this work in our designing cyclotron. But the shortcoming of this method is that the size of the electrical fields is so big. And we must have finished the design of RF cavities firstly.
2.The spiral acceleration gap can be divided into hundreds of straight segments, each of which uses a single gap cavity type(in opal-cycl). All single gap cavities have the same RF frequency and initial phase. I think this may be another method to achieve the simulation of spiral RF cavities.
I don't know if the second method is appropriate.
And may be there are some other methods? Can you give me some advise and inspiration?
Hope your reply, thank you!
Best regards,
Guoliang Dou
