Dear Colleagues Nicole Neveu and Christopher Mayes offered to host the 2020 OPAL retreat at SLAC.
Awesome, thanks very much!
We have tentatively selected the first week of April i.e. arrival 28 of March and departure (workshop end) 4 of April.
In case you have problems with the dates please let me know as soon as possible.
The retreat is primary for developers or colleagues that would like to become a developer. If you are interest please contact
me directly. We have tons of interesting work!
We will setup a todo list for the retreat on gitlab soon.
However I would like to propose 2 grand themes we should discuss and work on:
1) OPAL and Python
2) OPAL and future computing hardware architectures
My 5 cents a vision w.r..t the two points are the following:
1) Python is/will become the language of science. Fortunately, the way OPAL is designed
I see no bigger obstacles to write a wrapper such that
import opal as op
should possible!
2) In the Exascale area all computation are done on the hardware accelerator i.e. the GPU. OPAL has
already, via DKS, an interface to one GPU. However we have to address this new technology in a more general
way. My plan is to motivate some of the experts from NERSC/LBL to help us while we are at SLAC.
In case you have other ideas, please let me know.
I am looking forward to an interesting, inspiring and productive time at SLAC.
Cheers A
