Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to share the first version of our paper, “OPALX: A performance-portable framework for particle accelerator simulations,” now available on arXiv.
Building on OPAL, OPALX brings accelerator simulation to multicore CPUs and GPUs through a common code base built on IPPL and Kokkos. The paper describes the framework, its physical and numerical models, and initial verification of particle tracking, self-consistent space charge, and spin dynamics.
We present comparisons with G4Beamline and TraceWin, alongside CPU and GPU benchmarks. In the reported three-dimensional space-charge benchmark, a single NVIDIA A100 reaches approximately one billion macroparticles per second.
This is a first preprint, with further benchmarking planned before journal submission. We welcome your comments, questions, and suggestions.
Stay tuned for more to come!
Best regards,
Andy Adelmann, on behalf of the authors
