Hi John it came to my attention that in case of multiple core runs
there is a significant slowdown and unexpected behaviour when
running on virtual machines. However this is approximatively 1 1/2 years ago
so in the meantime it is maybe no issue anymore.

Good luck

Hi John,

We have someone here currently running OPAL on a virtual machine under
Windows. In the past I have also installed OPAL on Linux virtual
machine (using VirtualBox) under Windows for someone else.

I don't know what kind of performance hit you take on a virtual
machine, but it seems to run reasonably well depending on what
resources you make available to the virtual machine software.

Once you get your virtual machine up and running (might as well use
Scientific Linux 6 on VirtualBox or whatever virtual machine software
ANL uses), you can download the binaries and install OPAL from https://

Dear OPAL users,

I am Windows desktop user (don't hate me) and I wanted to know if
anyone has managed to run OPAL-T on Windows using cygwin or a virtual
machine?  If so, does it work well and what are the steps involved?

Thanks,
John
