Dear OPAL members,
As you already know, we would like to use OPAL-t in order to simulate deuteron bunches in the different modules of the IFMIF-DONES linac. For our problem, we basically need to get final particle distribution at the end of the lattice and the energy of the bunch.
So far, I have gone through the user's guide, the AWA RFPhotoInjector example and PyOPALTools notebooks. However, I still have a few questions (and pretty sure more will come along the way):
1. Regarding the particles distribution at the end, is it just provided in the RFphotoinjector.h5 that was generated after the simulation? I was checking it with pyOPALTools (the x and y variables).
Yes normally we store the last time-step per default.
2. Regarding the .T7 files, are these mandatory? Poisson Superfish is required too? Is there any guide related to the generation of such files beyond whats in the user's guide?
In case you have RF structures T7 files are one way of getting the fields into OPAL. Please consult the Superfish manual on how to create these files.
3. After running the simulation, a folder called /data/ is also created, with some files in it. What are these files used for? I have not seen examples of them in the pyOPALTools notebooks.
No the pyOPALTools usually only take .stat and .h5 files. Please view the stuff in the data directory
as advanced I am sure you do not need to consider them now.
4. If you have any other examples related to LINAC modules besides the AWA RF photo injector, we would appreciate if you could share them.
There are more coming up in the next few weeks, but what is missing for your case?
5. Do you know anyone within IFMIF-DONES that has knowledge in OPAL-t? Besides Iván Podadera, he only used OPAL-cycl.No unfortunately not.
Cheers A
That would be all for now. Thanks for your attention!
Best regards,
Galo Gallardo
Dear Andreas,
Thanks for your prompt reply!
Regarding the second question. For now we dont need RF structures, just simple lattices with quadrupoles, corrector magnets and drift zones to change the geometry/focusing of the beam. Do the quadrupoles require Superfish too?
And related to Superfish, the download link for the Poisson Superfish code has been in maintenance for a while now (from Los Alamos).Do you know any other place to get it? Is it the only software to generate the fieldmaps?
Regarding question #4: for example, a simple case of beam conditioning before the collision (like the HEBT purpose in IFMIF-DONES). In our work with Ocelot, we just took a set of quadrupoles and corrector magnets to focus and move the beam along the XY plane at the end. We would like to repeat that with OPAL, as a first iteration.
Thanks again for your attention and best regards,
Galo Gallardo
